The “2025 University Cup Table Tennis Tournament”, hosted by the Sichuan University Canada Alumni Association, was held from May 17 to May 19 at the Wangfu Sports Center.
This year’s event saw a record 84 teams competing, including 12 joint teams. The tournament brought together top-level players and strong teams, delivering exciting matches one after another. Every step forward reflected the athletes’ sweat and determination. On the court, they fought with tenacity and gave their all, showcasing not only excellent competitive form but also an indomitable spirit. Their performances offered the audience a series of thrilling table tennis showdowns.
Since its founding in 2017 by the Sichuan University Canada Alumni Association, the Canadian Chinese University Table Tennis Tournament has been successfully held six times prior to this year. Both the number of teams and participants have continued to grow, with the tournament expanding in scale and influence year by year:
- 2017: 40 teams, 200 players
- 2018: 64 teams, 428 players
- 2019: 81 teams, 610 players
- 2020–2021: Tournament suspended due to COVID-19
- 2022: Despite ongoing pandemic challenges, 74 teams, 598 players participated
- 2023: With stricter alumni eligibility checks and no dual registration allowed, 72 teams, 647 players competed
- 2024 (6th tournament): 85 teams, 797 players
- 2025 (7th tournament): 84 teams, 807 players — a record-breaking event!
