On September 7, 2024, the “Canadian University Alumni Badminton Tournament”, hosted by the Xi’an Jiaotong University Toronto Alumni Association, kicked off at the newly opened Can Sports Center in Markham.
The two-day “University Cup Badminton Tournament” brought together over 800 athletes from 66 teams (40 in Group A, 16 in Group B, and 10 in Group C), competing in a series of exciting matches.
This year marks the fifth edition of the tournament, with a remarkable 884 athletes from 127 universities competing. A total of 66 teams were divided into three groups:
- Group A (40 teams): Teams formed by alumni from a single university in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, located in the Greater Toronto Area and other regions.
- Group B (16 teams): Joint teams formed by alumni from up to three universities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan, also located in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions.
- Group C (10 teams): Joint teams formed by alumni of universities from around the world (with no limit on the number of universities), based in the Greater Toronto Area and nearby regions.
